Over the last 40 years our service activities have included sharing The Urantia Book at book fairs, donating and placing books in libraries and prisons across Alaska and participating in the Alaska Whole Life Festival. Whenever Interfaith gatherings or service opportunities occur within our Alaskan communities, we partner and dialog with other spiritual groups.

Social Networking

Our most recent endeavor has been the creation of a Face Book Group, The Northern Light Society of Alaska.   Here you will see upcoming events, videos, national announcements and much more. You can easily be invited by contacting Barbara Maier at

Our Society’s current major outreach activity is the 2×2=MORE. The birth of this project occurred   in May of 2012 when three of our members helped the International Fellowship Committee share The Urantia Book at a National African Book Fair in Lagos, Nigeria. This 18 -minute video showcases the interaction of Nigerians and Americans as they share their love for the brotherhood of man. It was made by amateurs on an iPad and an old cell phone. When we created this movie, we did not realize it would evolve into the project it has become. Northern Light Society has maintained a committed presence in Anchorage, Fairbanks and Homer for many years. Transportation in our state is challenging, so outreach happens in a multiple of ways: media, email, video conferencing and a yearly statewide gathering. We take every opportunity to invite new and experienced readers to eat, play, study and worship. We have also raised funds to assist other societies with scholarship programs and translations of The Urantia Book which now exists in over twelve languages. We are in the process of planning a new and exciting adventure, the formation of the Pacific Northwest Urantia Family (PNWUF). We have mentored and partnered with dedicated readers in the Pacific Northwest Region which includes Alaska, British Columbia, Idaho, Oregon and Washington. Our hope is to make greater strides in growing locally and supporting regionally.

Our upcoming event in September, 2015 is the “Gathering at the Hood” which is being planned and facilitated by the Pacific Northwest Urantia Family (PNWUF). This Gathering will attract Emergent Urantians who are committed to service, inclusion, outreach projects and modeling what is generally referred to as “The Fruits of the Spirit” referenced in The Urantia Book. These include: loving service, unselfish devotion, courageous loyalty, sincere fairness, enlightened honesty, undying hope, confiding trust, merciful ministry, unfailing goodness, forgiving tolerance, and enduring peace (The Urantia Book, paper 196).

The annual event of our Society is the traditional Jesus Birthday Celebration on August 21, the true birth date of Jesus (The Urantia Book, paper 122 ). On many occasions we have made this a weekend retreat at the rural lakeside house of one of members, Esther. Here we always have a remembrance supper, a Soul Frolic (let your imagination go on this one), boating on Horseshoe Lake, lots of fun, food, conversation and programs around the fire pit… surrounded by awesome Alaskan beauty.
